Herning Blue Fox 8, Odense Bulldogs 2

Imagine a hockey game that is action packed, fast-paced, with stellar goaltending....the game we saw tonight was the exact opposite of that. Aaron, Chad, Anne, Jordan, Maya, and myself decided to catch a hockey game tonight. We showed up right on time for the start of the game. Somehow we managed to get in through a back door and ended up entering the arena where the players come onto the ice. Security let us walk right by them without tickets...kind of weird but I wasn't complaining. I was quite impressed with the atmosphere in the arena. The arena was not very big and there were plenty of empty seats, but the fans that were there were loud. Each end of the rink was packed with fans. On one end, the home team fans. On the other, the Bluefox fans. All of the hardcore fans on the ends were dressed up in jerseys and scarves and were armed with drums, fireworks, noisemakers, and megaphones. It felt more like a soccer game with the non-stop chants being yelled out the entire game.
The quality of play was comparable to the CIS level in Canada but not quite as good. Their skating, puck control, passing, and shooting was not quite as smooth. I'm not sure of the standings in this league but I think that the Bluefox are somewhere near the top and the Bulldogs are somewhere near the bottom. The fact that the game was a blowout may have contributed to the lackluster play at times.
We also noticed that almost half the game was played on the powerplay. The refs were not afraid to use their whistles.
Highlights of the game:
-the weak ass attempt at a fight...both players trying to fight each other with their gloves still on.
-former Golden Bear, Kevin Marsh sniped 2 goals...he later told us that he earned a 1000 euro bonus for those...i'm in the wrong sport!
-the terrible goaltending by both goalies on the Bulldogs squad.
-my favorite part was the crazy couple sitting beside Aaron who kept talking in Danish to him! just nod and smile...nod and smile!
